About Us

History

As early as 1942, a few far-sighted owners recognized the need for an organization whose main purpose would be to improve general conditions in the bowling industry and founded the Vancouver Bowling Alley Operators' Association. In 1954, a B.C. Bowling Alley Operators' Association was formed and, in 1959, was to become the present Bowling Proprietors' Association of B.C. Finally, in 1961, a full-time administrator was hired and an office was opened.

Overview of Operation

The Bowling Proprietors' Association of B.C. is a not-for-profit society duly registered in accordance with the provisions of the Societies Act of the Province of British Columbia. Membership is voluntary and is open to all bowling establishments operating in the Province.

As the organization that is in large measure responsible for the conduct of the sporting activity of bowling in the Province, the Bowling Proprietors' Association of BC is managed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.

Each director has specific areas of responsibility and particular attention is given to regional representation. The group functions as the financial management, planning, and decision-making body for the Association.

Issues that have major implications for member-centres and their bowlers are brought to either board meetings by directors or to general meetings by proprietors or managers of member-centres. A number of standing committees have been developed to assist the Board of Directors in making decisions and developing work plans by addressing key areas and making recommendations based on their research and review.
